Reflections on Ramadan 1437 (2016) at ICBC

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh!

ALL PRAISE BE TO ALLAH (SWT) who blessed us with yet another opportunity to worship Him during the blessed month of Ramadan, Alhamdu lillah!  This was the 9th Ramadan at ICBC and it was truly a memorable one indeed.  We were privileged to have the service of Hafiz Faizullah Bhayat from U. K.—for the second year in a row.  With the rapid growth of our community, a record number of people attended prayers at our Center, Masha Allah.  On some taraweeh nights and Jumu’ah prayers in this holy month, the Men’s prayer hall, the Men’s deck and the Men’s Tent were full; which would translate to about 260 Men.  So many sisters attended ICBC during Ramadan that the Sisters’ hall as well as the Sisters Deck area were full.

During Ramadan, we also announced the great news of our hiring of Sheikh Yassir Fazaga as the Imam and Religious/Youth Director for ICBC, effective August 2016, InShaaAllah.

Taraweeh prayers were led by Hafiz-ul-Qur’an—Hafiz Faizullah Bhayat, assisted by our local youth huffaz, Hafiz Abdullah Mohseen and Hafiz Luqman Haroon.

The huffaz completed recitation of the Holy Qur‘an on the 29th night followed by beautiful dua’a by Hafiz Faizullah. After taraweeh, mouth-watering refreshments were provided by local Muslim owned businesses and a generous community member.

Qiyaam Al-Layl prayers were led during the last 10 nights by Hafiz Faizullah Bhayat.  Sheikh Eslam AbdelRaouf, led the prayers on the 28th of Ramadan.  It was a wonderful experience to have so many men, women, and children attend Qiyaam prayers at ICBC.

The following brothers delivered Khutbah at ICBC during Ramadan—Br. Hasan Ali; Sheikh Islam Mossad; Br. Mustafa Erwa; and Hafiz Faizullah Bhayat.

Every day after Fajr sala’at, Hafiz Faizullah Bhayat gave a short yet beneficial khatera, focusing primarily on the ayahs from the Qur’an recited during taraweeh prayers.

Several community members observed I’tekaf at ICBC during the last 10 days of Ramadan. May Allah (swt) accept their Ibaadah, Aameen.

We had Iftar/dinners sponsored by generous community members every Saturday and Sunday, and on July 4th.  We did not have enough slots for all those interested to sponsor at ICBC Iftar and therefore, there were 10 sponsors on some days!

A record number of people attended Iftar/dinner at ICBC this year; >400 people on some days.

We had a dedicated group of sisters who had volunteered for Iftar and dinner setup at the sisters’ side.  For the Men’s side logistics, the Shura Council members were split into four groups and were assigned responsibilities each weekend.

We had community members donate several cases of water (bottles).

Jazakum Allahu Khairan to all the sponsors and our dedicated volunteers!

During the last 10 nights, Sahoor meals were provided by community members and a local Muslim-owned restaurant, at the end of Qiyaam al-Layl prayers.  Jazakum Allahu Khairan to the sponsors!

We had special programs geared towards youth during Ramadan.

We held an Islamic Quiz contest every day on various topics.  Prizes were given out every week and grand prizes were given at the end of the month.  The entire month’s quiz Q&A has been posted at the ICBC Web Site.

Every Saturday starting at 6:00 PM, we held an Iftar program for boys attending Middle School and up, led by Hafiz Faizullah.  The program included an interactive session that covered a range of relevant topics for the adolescent boys in our community.

Every Sunday starting at 6:00 PM, we held an Iftar program for girls aged 10 and higher.  The program was led by Sr. Affifa Rashid and involved various interactive and entertaining activities.

Hafiz Faizullah taught the basics of reading the Qur’an to our youth during weekdays.  About 35 children attended.  Due to the overwhelming interest in this program, the class was split into several sessions and held from after Dhuhr salah until Maghrib time.  Jazakum Allahu Khairan to Hafiz Faizullah for his dedication to the teaching of the Noble Qur’an.

During the blessed month, our community youth girls conducted bake sale to raise funds towards the new masjid construction.  Held over a three day period from Maghrib until midnight, the bake sale was a fun event that generated approx. $1,200 in funds for the masjid.  This money was further matched by generous community members, increasing the total collection to about $2,400.  Jazakum Allahu Khairan to all the community youth girls and their parents for their participation as well as to the general community for their support of this great initiative by our youth.

$8,200 in Zakat al Fitr was collected at ICBC and the funds have been disbursed to the needy.

In preparation for Ramadan, we had performed numerous facility-related maintenance work—Overhauled air-conditioners; performed pest control at the premises; lawn maintenance; replaced fans at Sisters’ prayer hall; installed additional lighting at the parking lot, etc.  Most importantly, we had erected tents for both Men and Sisters.

We had installed special recycling station for plastic water bottles at our Center.  We recycled approx. 6,000 bottles during this month!

Throughout Ramadan, a professional cleaning crew was contracted to clean the masjid on a regular basis.

This was the first Ramadan during which we got to fully utilize the new parking lot.  Yet, with the rapid growth of our community, all 230 parking spaces were occupied on some days, SubhanAllah!

With so many new faces at ICBC this Ramadan, we encouraged members to sign up for ICBC membership and other features such as email and SMS text service.  Several people joined, Alhamdu lillah.

Two community members had taken an initiative to conduct voter registration drive at ICBC.  The brothers, along with their spouses, set up tables at the Men’s and Sisters’ side on four days and provided assistance on voter registration to about 30 community members.  Jazakum Allahu Khairan to the brothers for their wonderful effort on this very important initiative.

We conducted several fundraisers during the blessed month towards the Imam expenses and for the next phase of the master plan—Masjid construction.  The community support was truly overwhelming!  We raised approx. $400K in pledges and donations during this blessed month.  May Allah (swt) reward you and your families by multiplying manifold your generous donations and effort, Allahumma Aameen.

It is only by the Grace of Allah (swt) and the overwhelming support of the community that we have been able to continue the various programs and activities at ICBC. The services being offered could not have been possible without your dua’a, financial support, and feedback. The Executive Board humbly requests your continued support as we embark on an ambitious plan for our beloved Center.

May Allah (swt) accept our Ibaadah and grant us His Paradise, Aameen!

Jazakum Allahu Khairan
