RAMADAN 1439 ( 2018) REFLECTIONS

2018 ICBC Ramadan Reflection

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh!

O You who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for You as it was prescribed for those before you, that You may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious – see V.2:2)

— Qur’an [2:183]

ALL PRAISE BE TO ALLAH (SWT) who blessed us with yet another opportunity to worship Him during the blessed month of Ramadan, Alhamdu lillah! This was the 11 th Ramadan at ICBC and it was yet another memorable one for us. We were privileged to have the services of Hafiz Mohamed Awalee and Hafiz Mohamed Elattar who led taraweeh prayers at our masjid. With the rapid growth of our community, a record number of people attended prayers at our Center, Masha Allah. On some taraweeh nights and Jumu’ah prayers in this holy month, the Men’s prayer hall, the Men’s deck and the Men’s Tent were full; which would translate to about 300 Men. So many sisters attended ICBC during Ramadan that the Sisters’ hall as well as the newly converted Sisters rooms was full.

Taraweeh prayers were led by Hafiz Mohamed Awalee and Hafiz Mohamed Elattar. As in previous years, they were assisted by local youth Huffaz—Abdullah Mohseen, Luqman Javed, Musab Abdullah, Samir Khan, and Yusuf Zaidi.

The Hafiz completed recitation of the Holy Qur‘an on the 29th night. After Taraweeh, mouth-watering refreshments were provided by local Muslim owned businesses and generous community members.

Qiyaam Al-Layl prayers were led during the last 10 nights by Hafiz Mohamed Awalee and other community members.

Jumu’ah Khutbahs during the blessed month were delivered by Br. Ahmed Mahmoud, Br. Amjad Mohammed, Br. Amjad Odetallah, Br. Essam Atalla; Br. Hasan Ali, Br. Mohamed Bedaiwi, Sheikh Ahmed Momoh and Sheikh Kamil Mufti.

Every day after Fajr salah, a short khatera was provided on a variety of topics by the following brothers—Br. Ahmed Mahmoud; Br. Amjad Odetallah; Br. Hasan Ali; Br. Hassan Sukhni; Dr. Qazi Javed; Br. Mohamed Bedaiwi; Br. Mohamed Meky; Br. Mustafa Erwa, Br. Seydou Ba; and Br. Wael Elessawy.

Some community members observed I’tekaf at ICBC during the last 10 days of Ramadan.

May Allah (swt) accept their Ibaadah, Aameen.

We had Iftar/dinners sponsored by generous community members every Saturday and Sunday, and on June 12th . A record number of people attended Iftar/dinner at ICBC this year; about 450 people on some days. The Shura Council members were split into four groups and were assigned responsibilities each weekend to manage the Iftar/dinner logistics. We had community members donate several cases of water and boxes of dates.

Jazakum Allahu Khairan to all the sponsors and our dedicated volunteers!

During the last 10 nights, Sahoor meals were provided by a few families, at the end of Qiyaam al-Layl prayers.

Jazakum Allahu Khairan to the sponsors!

We held the following activities during Ramadan, Insha Allah.

  • Daily Islamic Quiz competition on various topics
  • Youth Girls Program by Sr. Abrar- Interactive session with girls on Weekends
  • “Speech Talent Show for Teen girls” by Dr. Atiya Arshad
  • Youth Girls & Boys Program: “Blessings of Ramadan” by Sr. Asra Nasneen

Young Muslims of Austin Boys held an event during Qayaam Ul Lail. Activities included prayers, Quran study & group discussions, and basketball / tennis tournament followed by Suhoor.

Sr. Anjum, a member of the ICNA Sisters’ Wing, conducted Qur’an classes in Urdu for community sisters in the month of Ramadan. The class was held between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm during weekdays. Jazakum Allahu Khairan to the sister for her dedication to the teaching of the Noble Qur’an.

During the blessed month, our youth girls and Girl Scouts conducted separate bake sale events during two weekends to raise funds for the new masjid construction. About $5,100 was raised from the sales and matching donations from generous community members. Jazakum Allahu Khairan to all the community youth girls and their parents for their participation as well as to the general community for their support of this great initiative by our youth.

$11,500 in Zakat al Fitr funds was collected at ICBC and the funds have been disbursed to the needy in the form of gift cards (115 cards of $100 value).

With so many new faces at ICBC this Ramadan, we held a membership drive for the community to sign up for ICBC membership and other features such as email and SMS text service. Several people became ICBC members, Alhamdu lillah.

The ICBC Da’wah & Outreach Committee hosted Iftar dinner for the Mormon Church on June 3 rd. We had about 75 guests attend the event. Alhamdu lillah.

We conducted several fundraisers during the blessed month for the new masjid construction that is in progress now. The community support at the fundraisers was truly overwhelming! We raised approx. $385K in pledges and donations during this blessed month.

May Allah (swt) reward you and your families by multiplying manifold your generous donations and effort, Allahumma Aameen.

It is only by the Grace of Allah (swt) and the overwhelming support of the community that we have been able to continue the various programs and activities at ICBC. The services being offered could not have been possible without your dua’a, financial support, and feedback. The Executive Board humbly requests your continued support as we embark on an ambitious plan for our beloved Center.

May Allah (swt) accept our Ibaadah and grant us His Paradise, Aameen!

If you have any comments or suggestions, or for additional information on any of these programs and activities, please email us at info@icbrushycreek.org or call (512) 850-4786.
